📖 Lantern Festival Culture Talk (15:30 - 16:30)
"We will unravel the traditional customs and fascinating stories hidden behind the festival — so that the lantern in your hands carries not only light, but also the soul of culture."
Discover the myths, traditions, and meanings behind the Lantern Festival:
- Why is it celebrated on the first full moon of the lunar year?
- In Chinese culture, the full moon symbolizes reunion and togetherness — just like a family gathered around a round table.
- What's the story behind Yuanxiao (sweet rice balls) ? Why are they round?
All explained in simple, engaging English.
🏮 DIY Lantern Making (16:30 - 18:00)
Get creative! Under guided instruction, you'll build your own traditional Chinese lantern from scratch — from framing to decorating. At the end, light it up and take it home as your own glowing souvenir — now filled with the stories you've just learned.
🍲 Yuanxiao Potluck (from 18:00, optional)
The Lantern Festival falls on the first full moon night of the Chinese calendar. In Chinese culture, the full moon represents reunion and wholeness — a time for families to come together, just as the moon is perfectly round in the sky.
After crafting, we invite you to stay for a cozy potluck that embodies this spirit of reunion. We'll prepare warm Yuanxiao (sweet rice balls) — their round shape symbolizes togetherness, and eating them is a way to wish for family unity and happiness in the new year.
We ask each participant to bring one dish to share (homemade or store-bought, savory or sweet — all welcome!). Let's sit together around a "round table," taste each other's favorites, and create our own little reunion moment — under the first full moon of the year.
